FIFA WORLD CUP 2022
Murat Yakin, a defender by trade, rose to prominence in Switzerland during his early coaching career thanks to his exploits with FC Basel.
Yakin also led Basel to a UEFA Champions League group-stage home and away win over Chelsea in 2013-14.
He received words of praise from then-Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho for his masterful performance in defence.
He made 49 appearances and scored four goals for Switzerland in international football.
He got his first break as a head coach in 2009, when he led Swiss club Thun to victory in the domestic Challenge League.
Switzerland has one of the most experienced squads in the FIFA World Cup 2022. Yakin has put together a team that is a good mix of young and experienced players.
Granit Xhaka will compete in his third World Cup, alongside Fabian Schar and Xherdan Shaqiri, who will compete in his fourth World Cup.
